Why is Donald Trump in a box?

Donald Trump supporters protest in Washington DC ahead of count

President Donald Trump has made an appearance this afternoon in what is likely to be one of his last as President of the United States. After multiple failed attempts to overrun the results of the US President Election, President Trump has now brought the allegations of election fraud to the Georgia Senate runoffs, which will decide the fate of President-elect Joe Biden’s time in office. Speaking on Wednesday, President Trump said: “We will never give up, we will never concede”

Social media users have reacted in confusion over the bizarre appearance.

One wrote: “Trump looks like David Blaine in a suite inside his box!”

Another said: “Trump looks like David Blaine in a suite inside his box!”

A third added: “Trump looks like a New In Box toy behind that glass.”

The President’s appearance comes as the Republican-led Senate and Democratic-controlled House of Representatives are due to meet to formally certify rival Joe Biden’s victory in the November election.

Mr Trump’s Wednesday address was made to thousands of the President’ supporters, from a grassy expanse known as the Ellipse near the White House.

Why is Donald Trump in a box?

The President has appeared in a bulletproof box to address the masses in the US following the outcome of the Georgia Senate elections.

Mr Trump’s administration likely thought the precautions were suitable given the very temperamental political situation in the US at the moment.

Even though the President has many supporters, a lot of people in the US also oppose his politics.

And Presidents of the past have fallen victim to assassination attempts, so it’s very likely Mr Trump was just taking extra care.

President Barack Obama was also forced to shield himself behind a bulletproof screen when delivering his 2008 victory speech.

President Obama has been the target of two assassination plots and hundreds of racist threats from white supremacist groups, so it comes as no surprise him and wife Michelle protected themselves behind the two-inch glass wall.

The Secret Service studied at least 500 assassination threats against President Obama before he even moved into the White House.

The President of the United States is the highest office in the country, so it comes as no surprise that such extreme, precautionary measures have to be taken.
