UK’s unluckiest driver paid £3.6k to pass his theory test at the 158th attempt

Britain’s worst – or unluckiest – driver had to cough up a whopping £3,600 on theory tests after they flunked it a staggering 157 times.

The unnamed motorist, who lives in England, can teach youngsters a thing or two about perseverance.

The 42-year-old eventually passed their test at the 158th time of asking.

And in good time, too, as they had already forked out £3,634 on theory tests alone.

The stats were obtained by Select Car Leasing under a Freedom of Information Act request.

In second place for the worst theory record was a woman who had 117 attempts before finally getting the big green tick.

The third worst driver was a 48-year-old woman who passed on attempt 94, keeping it in double digits.

One woman has had 117 efforts at the theory test, flunking everyone, costing a pretty penny in the process – £2,691.

Meanwhile, another hapless bloke took 43 tries at the practical test before they eventually got their licence.

That driver had shelled out £3,200 on tests, This Is Money reported.

Tests cost £62 on a weekday, and £75 on the weekend.

One Brit, who has had 41 tries at the practical, still hasn’t passed – despite paying £3,075 on tests.

And a third wannabe driver had to have 38 tests before he got his keys, costing a staggering £2,925.

Director of Select Car Leasing Mark Tongue said: "It's true what they say, if at first you don't succeed try, try and try again.

"Passing your driving test can be one of life's trickiest challenges and it can take some many more attempts than others.”

According to reports, England is the worst place to take a test, with 20 of the worst drivers in the last decade having to have a combined 679 attempts between them.
