Small plane crashes in Boulder County

A plane crashed in Boulder County near Erie on Thursday night. The air incident closed U.S. Hwy. 287 for a time as crews worked to investigate. No one was injured.

An instructor pilot and their student pilot were unharmed. According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the plane most likely originated from Rocky Mountain Metro Airport.

A team of forces from the Boulder County sheriff’s deputies, Colorado State Patrol, Lafayette police and fire departments, Boulder Emergency Services and Mountain View Fire Protection District responded to the downed Piper Cherokee 6, near the highway and Isabelle Road.

The plane was found in the Cherry Creek Tree Farm Open Space.

The Federal Aviation Administration is working on an investigation as to what caused the crash.
