OAP pushed into freezing river by yob teenagers who laughed and ran away
Teenagers shoved a 74-year-old man into a freezing cold river before running off laughing.
The "shaken" pensioner had to be pulled out of the water by a couple of heroic women who police want to speak with, in order to help track down the yobs responsible.
According to Cheshire Police, the poor man had been sitting on the bank of the River Mersey on Wharf Street, Warrington on Sunday afternoon when the “shocking and upsetting incident” occurred.
Completely drenched from the attack at around 3pm, the victim walked home from the spot near Riverside Retail Park, dripping wet and told his family what had just happened.
Family members then put a call in to the police, The Sun reports.
As well as suffering the river's extremely cool temperatures, police say the pensioner banged his head as he fell, leaving a nasty cut on his face.
He said two or three teenagers were responsible for launching him from behind into the Mersey before they bolted in laughter.
Enquiries into the heartless violence are ‘ongoing’ with Cheshire Police appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Mark Spaven said: “This was a shocking and upsetting incident which has understandably left the gentleman shaken.
“He returned home freezing cold and had sustained a cut to his face due to banging his head as he fell into the water.
“We are determined to find those responsible and I am urging anyone who has any information or believes they know who did this to come forward.
“I also want to appeal to the two women who thankfully came to his rescue to please get in touch with us as you could have information which could help our investigation.”
