Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ignoring Prince Charles in note branded ‘odd’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially launched Archewell with a statement about how their mothers had influenced them to be better people in a thought-provoking message – but didn't mention their dads.

The Duchess of Sussex is not thought to be speaking with her dad, Thomas Markle, and he was not mentioned, but royal expert Lizzie Robinson branded it "odd" for the pair not to pay tribute to Prince Charles as a parent because he has played such a "supportive" role.

In a joint statement, called a "note for 2021", Meghan and Harry said: "I am my mother's son. And I am our son’s mother.

"Together we bring you Archewell."

Debating the move on ITV's Royal Rota, Royal Editor Chris Ship noted the only images accompanying the message were Meghan with her mum, Doria Ragland, and Prince Harry with his mum, Princess Diana.

He said: "It definitely sparked off a bit of a debate about the wisdom of selecting the mothers rather than the fathers."

Lizzie Robinson, ITV Royal Producer, said it was "understandable" Meghan wouldn't pay homage to Thomas, but added: "It did strike me as particularly odd there was no mention of Prince Charles.

"Particularly given his support for the couple, even when you think to their wedding when he walked Meghan down the aisle, his support in their transition, financial support… for him not to be included at all did strike me as strange."

Chris added: "It's different with the Royal Family, of course, but he was a single father having to bring up William and Harry after the death of their mother, and whatever else were the demands on his time, his duties and all the rest of it, he had two young boys who were grieving their mother to look after as well."

Summarising his feeling on the issue, he said: "That was interesting, it's not for us to say whether that was the right or wrong decision."

This comes after Prince Harry is said to be "thriving" with his new Hollywood lifestyle as he and Meghan are set to rake in millions with their Spotify and Netflix content-creation deals.
