- He lured woman to public toilets in Little Ilford Park, London, in February 2020

A cosplay fanatic who dressed as Marvel comic book character The Punisher at events has been jailed for more than nine years after launching a ‘savage attack’ on a teenage girl in a park toilet before leaving her for dead.
Connor Deegan, 21, was found by police near Little Ilford Park in London wearing blood-soaked clothing and carrying a bag containing a large hunting knife which was covered in his 18-year-old victim’s DNA.
He lured the teenager to the public toilets on February 17, 2020 while pretending to be taking her to Ilford railway station. There, he stabbed her multiple times in the neck and stomach during a frenzied attack.
A court heard that the woman survived the onslaught and played dead on the toilet floor until her assailant left. She then managed to make her way to a nearby house, where a family watching TV let her in to keep her safe.
The knife wound was just centimetres from the main artery in her neck, according to a member of the family who spoke to the Evening Standard.

Police arrested Deegan at a nearby address within six hours of the initial attack and was charged within 24 hours due to overwhelming evidence of his guilt.
Deegan was still wearing blood-stained clothing and had a bag that contained a large combat knife, a balaclava, black gloves, and a pocket knife.
Detectives investigating the stabbing found photographs of Deegan dressed up in body armour and calling himself ‘The Punisher’, a Marvel comic book character.
Text messages from him indicated that he also planned on creating his own weaponry and armour. Deegan was a regular cosplayer, and turned up in this outfit at conventions and meet-ups nearby.
At Inner Crown Court yesterday, Deegan was jailed for nine years and four months for attempted murder, theft, and possession of an offensive weapon.

He had previously pleaded guilty to a Section 20 wounding and possession of an offensive weapon at the same court, five days before he was due to stand trial. This plea was accepted by the court with the offence of theft to lie on file.
Detective James Cronin, of the Metropolitan Police’s North East BCU Safeguarding Unit, said: ‘Deegan committed a cold, calculated and savage attack on a victim who is very lucky to have survived.
‘Had it not been for the help she received from the community immediately following the attack, and the assistance provided by first responders and medical specialists, the outcome could have been even more severe.
‘For the victim, the resulting scars from this incident will not only be physical, and they will last far beyond the healing of wounds.’
In an impact statement presented to court, the victim said that she now suffers panic attacks and uncontrollable crying fits, and has life-long physical scars.
