The report which was published by The Times and The Daily Mail last week was swiftly removed after Number 10 intervened, claiming that the article was not factual. However, Mr Johnson’s former adviser, Mr Cummings has now said that not only were the claims true, the “truth is worse”. Writing on Twitter, he said: “The ‘missing story’ (pulled by Times after no10 call Fri night) is true. Walters repeatedly published accurate stories, e.g on illegal donations. Times pathetic to have folded & shd reverse ferret. Truth is worse! wanted to appoint girlfriend to gvt job in Q3 2020 too.”

  • Downing Street admits pressuring The Times to remove story

Downing Street has confirmed that members of Boris Johnson’s team intervened following the publication of a story about his wife Carrie in The Times.

However, they denied that the Prime Minister contacted the paper himself to complain.

Mr Johnson attempted to install Carrie in a £100,000-a-year job in the Foreign Office at a time when he was conducting a secret affair with her, The Times had reported before removing the story.

A version also disappeared from the Mail Online website.

It is understood that no legal action has been taken by Number 10 in relation to the story.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson said that he was unable to issue a formal comment on the allegation, as it related to the period when Mr Johnson was Foreign Secretary from 2016-2018.

Boris Johnson discussed environmental roles for wife in 2020

Boris Johnson discussed environmental roles for his wife, Carrie, in autumn 2020, either for the COP26 Summit or with the Royal Family, according to the Daily Mirror.

The latest claim follows reports Mr Johnson tried to hire her as his chief of staff when he was Foreign Secretary in 2018.

Downing Street said he had never recommended Ms Johnson for a government role, but stopped short of denying that he considered or discussed the move.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “The Prime Minister has never recommended Mrs Johnson for a government role, or one as part of the Earthshot Prize.

“Beyond that I wouldn’t get into any conversations the Prime Minister may or may not have had in private.”

‘Truth is worse!’ shock as Carrie dragged into fresh scandal by former adviser

Boris Johnson will face a grilling from Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer today after Dominic Cummings confirmed reports that the Prime Minister tried to appoint his then-girlfriend Carrie to a top government job when he was foreign secretary.

The report which was published by The Times and The Daily Mail last week was swiftly removed after No 10 intervened, claiming that the article was not factual.
