The Home Depot, Inc. Q2 Earnings Advance

The Home Depot, Inc. (HD) announced a profit for its second quarter that climbed from last year.

The company’s profit came in at $4.33 billion, or $4.02 per share. This compares with $3.48 billion, or $3.17 per share, in last year’s second quarter.

Analysts had expected the company to earn $3.71 per share, according to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts’ estimates typically exclude special items.

The company’s revenue for the quarter rose 23.4% to $38.05 billion from $30.84 billion last year.

Indonesia reports 1,673 new coronavirus infections, 70 deaths

JAKARTA (REUTERS) – Indonesia reported 1,673 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday (Aug 18), bringing the total number of cases in the South-east Asian nation to 143,043, data from the country’s Health Ministry showed.

The data indicated an additional 70 deaths, taking the total to 6,277.

Home Depot on Tuesday reported that its quarterly sales soared 23% as consumers stuck in the house during the coronavirus pandemic tackled home improvement projects.

Shares of the company rose 2.6% in premarket trading.

Net sales rose 23.4% to $38.05 billion, topping expectations of $34.53 billion. Its same-store sales soared 25% in the quarter.

Philippines reports 4,836 new coronavirus cases, 7 deaths

MANILA (REUTERS) – The Philippines’ Health Ministry on Tuesday (Aug 18) confirmed 4,836 novel coronavirus infections, the seventh straight day of reporting more than 3,000 cases, and seven additional deaths.

In a bulletin, the ministry said total confirmed cases had increased to 169,213, while deaths had reached 2,687.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday eased the strict coronavirus lockdown in the capital Manila and nearby provinces to reopen the economy and help struggling businesses, despite the country having the highest number of infections in South-east Asia.

Eric Trump’s ‘Absolutely Terrible’ Tweet During The DNC Gets Flipped On Him

Eric Trump tweeted just four words during Monday’s opener of the Democratic National Convention.

“This is absolutely terrible,” wrote President Donald Trump’s son.

The post prompted ridicule as the majority of responders, who assumed it was about the DNC, used the comment to attack his father’s administration.

“The state of the union? Yes it is,” one person commented.

Added another: “This Presidency sure is. Can’t end soon enough.”

Denver breaks record-high temp Monday and another record could fall Tuesday

Denver set a record-breaking high temperature on Monday, hitting 98 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The 98 degrees mark for Aug. 17, set at 2:39 p.m., broke the old record of 97 degrees from 2013, the weather service said.

On Tuesday, another record high temperature could fall in Denver. Tuesday’s high temperature in the city is expected to top out at 98 degrees, according to the weather service forecast. The prior record for Aug. 18 is 98 degrees, also set in 2013.
