The second-deadliest Ebola outbreak in history has spread through three provinces in the Democratic Republic of Congo, infecting more than 3,000 people and killing more than 2,000 since last year. The number of cases has slowed, but officials in multiple countries fear migrants can spread the virus, which has also appeared in Uganda and Guinea.

No cases linked to the current outbreak have been reported in the US.

Long Island scoutmaster arrested for sexually abusing boy: police

A Long Island man was busted for sexually abusing a child at Boy Scouts of America events, authorities said.

Assistant scoutmaster Jonathan Spohrer was nabbed Thursday at his North Bellemore home, Nassau police said.

The 26-year-old is accused of abusing a 12-year-old boy repeatedly from January 2018 through November that year at Scout-sanctioned events and retreats, authorities said.

Spohrer was charged with course of sexual conduct against a child at his Friday arraignment at Nassau First District Court and was held on bond $13,000, cash $6,500.

His lawyer could not immediately be reached.

LIRR signalman target of Memorial Day derailment, time-keeping probes ID’d

The accident happened after a westbound train, which was returning to New York City without passengers, pulled off the main tracks into a siding. But the train was too long for the side track and the rear end of the train stuck out onto the main track, where it was struck by the locomotive of an eastbound train with 32 passengers on board. The locomotive of each train derailed but no one was injured. A signal that could have stopped the train did not work properly because of the bad electrical connection.

4 in custody after teen shot in Brooklyn: cops

An 18-year-old was shot twice early Sunday in Clinton Hill and four men are in custody, cops said.

The teen was shot in the right hand and hip just after 12:30 a.m. on Myrtle Avenue near Emerson Place, according to police.

The victim, whose name was not released, was rushed to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he was expected to be OK, cops said.

Four men were in cuffs following the shooting, which escalated from a dispute, according to police. Charges were still pending Sunday morning.

Motorcyclist dies after Brooklyn crash

A 27-year-old motorcyclist has died after a late-Saturday night crash in Brooklyn, according to police.

The man, whose name was being held pending the notification of his family, collided with a mini-van on his motorcycle just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday while both were heading south on Tompkins Avenue near Ellery Street, cops said.

The 2016 Honda Odyssey was trying to make a left onto Ellery Street from Tompkins Avenue when the 2015 Yamaha slammed into the mini-van, police said.

EMS rushed the motorcyclist to Bellevue Hospital where he died, according to police.

The mini-van driver remained on scene, cops said.

No arrests have been made.

Dramatic CCTV shows the speeding Nissan Qashqai allegedly deliberately driven into a crowd of drinkers in Colchester, Essex.
