Woman's large record-breaking feet fit a UK 17 shoe size
A woman who holds the Guinness World Record for the largest female feet has to get her shoes specially made.
Tanya Herbert’s right foot measures a whopping 13 inches and her left foot 12 and a half inches – meaning her shoe size for the UK is usually a 17.
The 39-year-old, from Texas, is not your average height either – standing at 6 feet 9 inches tall, which is only 3 inches shorter than the tallest woman on the planet.
Tanya said it’s sometimes not easy having big feet.
‘The most difficult part of having big feet is trying to find shoes that fit,’ she explained.
‘I extend women’s shoes myself so they fit my feet, or, if I shop in the men’s section, I drop down to either a size 16 or 17 – depending on the brand.
‘I can find some men’s shoes at that size online – but when they arrive, I personalise them to make them look more feminine.’
It was while she was at high school that her feet reached the record-breaking size, and Tanya soon discovered they were much larger than her peers.
She said she was never bullied for her height and her school friends made sure she was supported each day.
Tanya believes her height comes from her genes, because her dad is 6 foot 4 inches tall and her mum is 6 foot 5 inches.
Throughout her life she was forced to wear men’s shoes until she connected with other women with similar issues on social media.
She found ways to make her own feminine shoes by making them longer and wider.
Recently, Tanya gained a large following on TikTok because of her feet, and was encouraged by her followers to go for the Guinness World Record.
After measuring her feet in April this year, it was confirmed in October she had the largest feet – beating Julie Felton, who held the previous record.
She now plans to use the platform to encourage shoe manufacturing companies to be more inclusive by carrying a larger range of sizes, at a more affordable cost for women.
She said: ‘You can find men’s size shoes that are my size, but trying to find women’s shoes is impossible or extremely unaffordable.
‘Being a world record holder may present opportunities that I may not have been offered beforehand.
‘I want to be a spark to the shoe manufacturing industry!’
