Thomas Cook 'could relaunch as online travel agent this month'

The owners of Thomas Cook are reportedly planning an ‘imminent’ relaunch of the travel company.

Sky News reported that the Chinese company Fosun, which bought the brand after it collapsed last year, is planning to reinvent it as an online travel agent ‘as soon as this month’.

They said an announcement could be made in the coming days but depends on securing regulatory approval.

A source said that plans to make the brand a ‘refreshed’ name were at an advanced stage.

In November last year, Qian Jiannong, chairman of Fosun tourism group, said: ‘The group has always believed in the brand value of Thomas Cook.

‘The acquisition of the Thomas Cook brand will enable the group to expand its tourism business building on the extensive brand awareness of Thomas Cook and the robust growth momentum of Chinese outbound tourism.’

Former shareholder Fosun paid £11 million to use the Thomas Cook name and website, along with brand hotels Casa Cook and Cook’s Club.
