Amid the blazing heat today, Britons were left concerned after a helicopter hovered over a popular beach in the town. One holidaymaker, expressed his concern as he viewed the helicopter attempting to search the area. Although not confirmed, Keith Donovan, 42, from Chelmsford, claimed the helicopter was looking for “someone in trouble in the water”.
He told Express.co.uk: “At about 6.20pm the rescue helicopter flew very low right along the seafront between Southend and Westcliff.
“It then stopped and hovered over Westcliff for about five minutes before eventually moving further west along the seafront.
“Hundreds of people out enjoying the sunshine stopped and watched as the chopper then came back up along the coast towards Southend.
“Nobody knows what’s going on but they’re obviously looking for someone in trouble in the water.
“It’s been a beautiful day and this is a really popular spot with swimmers and paddle boarders, but none of us could see anyone in obvious trouble.
“We’re just praying everyone is ok.”
Emergency services across the country have been stretched as the public enjoys the hot weather.
