Shop destroyed after suspected 'gas explosion' in London

Emergency services have rushed to a west London shop after a suspected gas explosion ripped through the store.

Firefighters are currently at the scene in Western Road, Southall in west London.

Dramatic footage from the scene shows the front of the Royal Taste restaurant completely blown apart.

Residents are said to have been evacuated from their homes.

A Met Police spokesperson said: ‘Police were called at 13.27hrs on Sunday, 30 April to reports of a suspected gas explosion at a residential address in Western Road, Southall.

‘One person has been taken to a west London hospital; a condition assessment awaits.

‘A small number of other people are also being treated by LAS.

‘Some neighbouring addresses have been evacuated as a precaution.

‘Emergency services remain at the scene. Road closures are in place and people are advised to avoid the area at this time.’
