Russia accuses US of being behind Kremlin drone attack

Russia has formally accused the US of being behind the alleged assassination attempt on Vladimir Putin.

Dmitry Peskov, the president’s spokesperson, addressed the ‘drone attack’ on the Kremlin, which is the centre of Russian power and the most protected place in the entire of Moscow.

He made the allegation in a briefing to state media, saying Washington should be aware that the government knew it was selecting the targets, while Ukraine was just implementing US plans.

Bu Mr Peskov gave no evidence to support the claim of any US involvement.

Ukraine has denied being behind the incident, with president Volodymyr Zelensky saying: ‘We don’t attack Putin or Moscow.

‘We fight on our territory. We’re defending our villages and cities.’

Unverified footage circulating on social media showed two flying objects thought to be drones approaching the Kremlin, and one exploding with a bright flash.
