As the 23rd anniversary of Princess Diana’s death approaches, the late royal’s life has been discussed with a new light. CEO of ‘The Diana Award’ Tessy Ojo reflects on the Princess of Wales and how Prince Harry and Prince William are carrying on their mother’s legacy. She told Royally Obsessed podcast hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie how the two royals approach charity work.

Ms Ojo said: “There are hours of work that goes on behind the scenes of an engagement.

“I love the fact that for them what is so important is to have meaningful engagements.

“It’s important that they are having an impact so it’s never ever about a photo op.

“Absolutely not, so if that’s what you’re asking for, that would never happen.”

She continued: “It’s always: why do you want us involved in this? What is the impact? What difference is this going to make? Why are you doing this?

“It’s really: How are you going to demonstrate an impact? What’s the overall outcome? How long before we reach this outcome?

“So it’s very strategic and very meaningful.

“It’s an incredible honour to work with them and shine a spotlight on issues in our society we sometimes don’t want to talk about.”

The award CEO added: “The whole mental health issue and the impact of bullying, for example, are less taboo now.

“For many years, as a society we were told we just needed to man up and that bullying was character building irrespective of the destruction it caused.

“So for the princes to really get on board, to get behind the scenes and speak first hand to people who have been affected and then to publicly come out and make a difference is incredible.”

The brothers have now divided the future proceeds of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, a fundraiser for charities set up in their mother’s name.

They previously used it as a joint initiative in order to raise funds for their own charitable endeavours.

Now they are going to siphon the funds off separately.
