The Queen of Spain, 50, who is the Unicef Advocate for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, has been on an intense international schedule over the past few days. She firstly attended the late Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday, then took part in a talk with Jill Biden, and has been involved in several meetings about mental health.

Queen Letizia flew to New York on Monday and had the meeting with Unicef and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

She told attendees: “I assure you of my commitment and work to promote priority action and the strengthening of mental health programmes around the world.”

The following day, she was joined by Jill Biden as the pair attended Columbia University to tour its new medical centre.

The Spanish royal, and First Lady, 71, looked stunning, both wearing white, as they addressed the room, and spoke about the fight against cancer, ahead of World Cancer Research Day, which falls this Saturday.

It comes after both women attended the late Queen’s state funeral on Monday.

Queen Letizia and her husband King Felipe VI were at the funeral, while Jill and her husband Joe Biden, also attended.

It was reported the Spanish royal left the Queen’s funeral halfway through in order to make her flight to New York, while Ms Biden stayed until the end of the committal service.

However, her husband and Spanish King stayed to attend the committal service, with his 83-year-old mother, Queen Sofia.

The mother-of-two is believed to have stayed in the Spanish Embassy during her visit to the UK.

World leaders and their respective partners, some of whom attended the late monarch’s funeral, are expected to see each other again this week as the United Nations 77th Session takes place.

During their visit to the prestigious university on Wednesday, Letizia and Jill visited the Irving Medical Centre, where Letizia, who is the Honorary President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, addressed the room to discuss the fight against cancer.

Ms Biden also delivered a speech during the visit.

It comes as President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Liz Truss held their first one-on-one meeting at a UN summit in New York, on the same day.

The pair met to discuss the Northern Ireland protocol, which has caused tensions between the two leaders over the UK’s plans to override the treaty.

Ms Truss’s spokesperson said she and Mr Biden only had a “short discussion” about the Northern Ireland in a wide-ranging conversation dominated by the war in Ukraine.

The leaders reportedly spoke about supporting Ukraine, energy security and preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
