Prince William and Kate’s new roles show ‘clear hierarchy’ above Prince Harry

Prince William appears to comfort Kate

Prince William and Princess Kate’s distinguished new roles will come as “no surprise” to Prince Harry, a PR expert has claimed.

King Charles has gifted Kate and William prestigious new military appointments.

According to PR expert Rhea Freeman, “these titles, in addition to the ones they already hold, show a clear progression up the chain”.

She continued: “As for Harry, he might feel slighted, but it was known that many of the roles he held as a working royal would be removed if he stepped down, so it should come as no surprise.”

It will also be a major boon for the military, Ms Freeman claimed, adding that it’ll likely boost coverage and positive PR should the royals attend ceremonies, bases and events.

What are William and Kate’s new roles?

William will assume the roles of Colonel-in-Chief of the Mercian Regiment and The Army Air Corps, giving him command over Harry’s former unit.

William, who served as an RAF Search and Rescue Pilot, has also been appointed Royal Honorary Air Commodore, RAF Valley.

At the same time, Kate Middleton has now been appointed Commodore-in-Chief of Fleet Air Arm, a role that was relinquished by the Duke of York in 2022.

Kate has also been appointed as Colonel-in-Chief of the 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards.

The Princess of Wales will also take on the role of Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby, taking over from William.

Elaborating on the decision, the Palace explained that the new roles “will continue to reflect the close relationship between the Armed Forces and the Royal Family in His Majesty’s reign”.

Kate’s existing military appointments include Colonel of Irish Guards and Royal Honorary Air Commodore of the Air Cadets.

Mightier than the military

William and Kate’s new appointments hold a special significance that extends far beyond the military, Ms Freeman claims.

She explained: “For Kate and William particularly, I think it shows the increased level of responsibility on them both and their transition to the biggest roles that await them both as King and Queen in the future.

“It makes perfect sense for this responsibility to be increased at this stage, with increased public presence to reinforce the succession plan and that the monarchy is in safe hands with people who really do care.”

Kate and William reacted to their new titles on their official Instagram account on Friday.

“An honour to serve our new military affiliations across the @royalnavy @britisharmy and @royalairforceuk,” stated the couple’s official social media account following the news.

The caption was accompanied by a video montage of heroic scenes from the British military.

William and Kate weren’t the only royals to be appointed to new roles.

Queen Camilla is now patron of The Royal Army Chaplains’ Department, a role previously held by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward & Duchess Sophie also received new military honours.
