Postcode checker shows where your nearest vaccination centre is

A new tool that allows people to check where their nearest vaccination centre is has been developed in the UK.

The postcode checker from In Your Area allows users to find out which GP surgery, hospital or vaccination centre is closest to them.

There’s expected to be 1,200 different sites offering vaccinations by the end of this week. This will include 200 pharmacies who are trialling a vaccination programme that could eventually see more than 1,000 pharmacies offering the jabs.

It’s after seven mass vaccination centres were opened in England yesterday in cities including London, Birmingham and Manchester.

NHS England has released a map showing the location of all the sites that are currently up and running.

The Government wants to be able to offer people a choice between getting vaccinated locally or traveling further afield to a bigger site where thousands will be vaccinated every day. The NHS says 96% of people now live within ten miles of a vaccination centre.

The roll-out of the jabs is the biggest operation of its kind ever seen in the UK and is crucial to easing the harsh lockdown restrictions currently in place across the country.

Eight priority groups have been identified as being most in need of the vaccine starting from the most vulnerable including care home residents and the over 80s.

The Government has decided to administer the first dose of the vaccine to as many people as possible before a second dose is offered.

Both vaccine candidates currently in use – made by Pfizer and AstraZeneca – require two jabs at least three weeks apart.

People have been told to wait to be contacted about receiving the vaccine and not to contact authorities themselves.

A total of 2,474,205 Covid-19 vaccinations had taken place in England between December 8 and January 11, according to provisional NHS England data, including first and second doses, which is a rise of 140,441 on the previous day’s figures.

Of this number, 2,080,280 were the first dose of the vaccine, a rise of 121,129 on January 11’s figures, while 393,925 were the second dose, up by 19,312 on the previous day.
