Meghan and husband Prince Harry signed a deal with the video streaming giant this week. It will see the couple produce their own shows, which will include documentaries and children’s programmes.

Now, a ‘long-time friend’ of Meghan has claimed the Duchess of Sussex has wanted to win an Oscar award since she was young.

The source claimed to MailOnline: “An Oscar is all Meg has ever wanted.”

They said Meghan – former star of US drama series Suits – “used to practice her acceptance speech in the mirror with a hairbrush” as a child.

In addition to an Oscar, the Duchess would also like to win three other prestigious awards within showbusiness – an Emmy, a Grammy, and a Tony – the source added.

It would not be the high-profile celebrities have been awarded Netflix deals despite not being production professionals.

In February this year, a Netflix documentary co-produced by former US president Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama was awarded an Oscar for best documentary.

Called ‘American Factory’, the documentary was produced by the Obamas’ production company Higher Ground.

It is not currently known what Harry and Meghan’s production company will be called.

It has been reported their Netflix deal could be worth around $150 million, though the time frame is not clear.

A ‘top Hollywood talent agent’ has predicted a more conservative figure, saying they would be “surprised” if the deal was worth over $2 million per year, according to entertainment site Page Six.

In a statement regarding the Netflix deal, the Sussexes said: “Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.”

According to Hello!, the streaming service has confirmed multiple projects related to the Duke and Duchess’ production company are in the works already.

It is not known whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will appear in front of camera or not.

Analysts have said there is a possibility they could feature in documentaries – something Prince Harry has already done.

The Duke appeared in Netflix’s ‘Rising Phoenix’ – a documentary about the Paralympic games.

Meghan had carved out an acting career before her marriage to Prince Harry, starring as attorney Rachel Zane in drama series Suits.

Meghan and Harry have various links to showbusiness, having formed friendships with US TV star Oprah Winfrey and Hollywood actress Margot Robbie.

The Sussexes moved to the US earlier this year amid their decision to step down as senior royals.

They initially moved to Los Angeles before relocating to Santa Barbara – both in the US state of California.
