Meghan Markle said The Bench is full of “easter eggs and nuggets” referencing her family as she discussed her first children’s literature project. The Duchess of Sussex insisted she wanted to ensure her young readers could have fun going through the book, including her young son Archie Harrison. Speaking to NPR, Meghan admitted she had illustrator Christian Robinson include a special nod to Princess Diana.

She said: “Once we had decided what the bench would look like for each specific vignette, to have them all at the beginning and at the end of the book so that, as a child, you could go ‘let me find each bench,’ and it’s its own little project and game.

“It’s all those Easter eggs and nuggets that are tucked within the book.

“There’s a lot of, if people start digging, I think they can find sweet little moments we’ve tucked in there.

“From my favourite flower, even my husband’s mum’s favourite flowers, forget-me-nots, we wanted to make sure those were included.

“There’s a lot of special details.”

It is not the first time Meghan paid a special tribute to Princess Diana as she ensured to have a bunch of forget-me-nots included in her bridal bouquet when she married Prince Harry in 2028.

The Duchess of Sussex also revealed her eldest child Archie is a passionate reader and has enjoyed the book mum Meghan wrote for him and millions of other children around the world.

She continued: “Kids, they just pick up on everything and that was one of the pieces that I think was important for me even on the homecoming scene with the military dad.

“I knew Archie, I knew our son would notice all of those elements. And he loves it.

“Archie loves the book which is great because he has a voracious appetite for books and constantly when we read him a book, he goes ‘again, again, again.’

“But now the fact he loves The Bench, I can say, ‘mommy wrote this for you,’ feels amazing.”
