M5 closed in both directions near Stroud after 'serious collision', police say
The fatal accident, which happened at about 7.30am on Saturday near junction 13 on the southbound carriageway, caused the motorway to be closed in both directions.
Diversions were put in place between junctions 12 and 14 southbound, and between junctions 12 and 13 northbound.
Police later reopened two lanes of the northbound carriageway, while the southbound side was expected to remain closed for some time.
A Gloucestershire police spokesman said: “A man has died following a collision between a car and a pedestrian on the M5 near junction 13 for Stroud this morning.
“We were called to the southbound side of the M5 just after 7.30am.
“The man (the pedestrian) was declared dead at the scene. No one else was injured.”
