Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are “head over heels” for their newborn baby daughter Lilibet Diana, according to a source close to the couple. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their second child on Friday, June 4 and are said to be “in love” with the newest addition to their family.
A royal source told Us Weekly: “Harry and Meghan are head over heels with their new bundle of joy.”
“Lili is more perfect than Harry and Meghan could ever imagine.”
“They are so in love with her and she’s absolutely beautiful. She’s a cross between Harry and Meghan.”
Meghan Markle gave birth to Lilibet at 11:40am at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, near their family home in Montecito, California.
The baby weighed 7lbs 11oz and a spokesperson for the couple said both mother and baby are “healthy and well, and settling at home”.
Named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, the Duke and Duchess have decided to pay tribute to both the Queen and Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.
Lilibet is the Queen’s childhood nickname, which developed as the young princess was unable to pronounce the name Elizabeth.
Her father King George VI and other members of the Royal Family consequently began to affectionately call her Lilibet.
The endearing moniker was adopted by the Queen’s late husband, Prince Philip. A letter from Prince Philip to the Queen Mother in 1947 read “I thank God for Lilibet and us”.
The decision to give their child the second name Diana will be a personal one to Prince Harry. He has spoken several times of the traumatic impact of losing his mother so young and has always tried to preserve her legacy.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter is the Queen’s eleventh great-grandchild and is currently eighth in line to the throne.
After the announcement of her safe delivery, Buckingham Palace released a statement to say: “The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
The Royal Family have not seen the couple’s eldest child Archie since November 2019.

It is expected for the Duke and Duchess to now spend some time away from the public spotlight, in order to settle in with their baby daughter.
The couple broke from royal tradition by announcing the arrival of their baby through their website Archewell.
They wrote, “She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
Lilibet will be joining her older brother Archie Harrison, who recently celebrated his second birthday.
