Meghan Markle and Prince Harry arrived in the UK, just days before the death of the Duke’s beloved grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Their trip was initially meant to be a short visit to attend a few events for charities “close to their hearts”, but the trip was extended after the 96-year-old’s death on September 8. Following Charles being appointed to his new role as king, Katie Nicholl, author of ‘The New Royals‘, claims that King Charles III would have “had time” to meet with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their UK visit.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Ms Nicholl said: “I’m sure that there was time for the King to have an audience with, in some capacity, with Harry and Meghan.”

Ms Nicholl spoke amid ongoing speculation over whether a meeting had, or hadn’t, happened during the Sussexes visit to the UK.

She added: “I mean, don’t forget Charles is very keen to try and smooth relations [and] try and move things on.”

She also addressed speculation that Meghan had requested a meeting with her father-in-law.

Ms Nicholl said: “I think any speculation that she requested a meeting is probably just that, speculation.”

The royal expert concluded: “I think we can safety assume, given that they were over here for well over a week, there would have been time for both of them to speak with Charles.”

Meghan and Harry arrived in the UK on September 3, two days before their schedule begun.

The couple arrived without their two children, Archie, 3 and one-year-old Lilibet.

Now based in California, the couple have carved out a new life with their children Archie and Lilibet.

Their daughter was born in June 2021, a year after their royal exit.

It is unclear whether the couple still remain in the UK, following Monday’s state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II.

Although, a source told US Weekly that the couple were “missing” their two children and “can’t wait” to be reunited with them.

According to US Weekly’s host Christina Garibaldi, the insider noted that “it’s the longest time they’ve been apart from their children”.
