Kate is gearing up to celebrate the eighth birthday of Prince George. The celebrations will likely include presents and treats – including a homemade cake.

The Duchess of Cambridge opened up on how she likes to make her children’s birthdays special.

Appearing on the BBC special “A Berry Royal Christmas”, Kate confessed to cooking queen Mary Berry she “loves” baking birthday cakes for her little ones.

However, to keep the treat a secret until the birthday, she needs to wait for her children to go to sleep before starting to bake.

Kate continued: “It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up ’til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it.”

Unlike the birthdays of his siblings, Prince George’s special day is also marked with another tradition.

Princess Diana’s best friend and one of the third in line to the throne’s godparents Julia Samuel revealed she likes to buy the boy “impossible” toys for his birthdays.

These hilarious presents aim at making the life of Prince William and Kate just a little bit harder due to the noise they make or how difficult it is to assemble them.

Appearing on an episode of the How to Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast, Ms Samuel said: “I do to George what [Diana] did to us, which is give impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making.

“William then has to spend days putting together.

“And then put all the machinery together, and it makes awful tooting noises and lights flashing and all of that.”

The birthdays of Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte are usually marked with the release of a new portrait, often taken by Kate.

However, one royal expert raised doubts Kensington Palace would share a new picture of George to mark his eighth birthday after he became the target of cruel online trolling following his attendance at two EURO 2020 matches.

Appearing on True Royalty TV’s, royal biographer Angela Levin said last week: “There are rumours that we might not see the photograph [of Prince George] when he’s eight, because they’ve been so upset by the rudeness of people mocking a little boy aged seven, and I hope they can overcome that.”

Another royal author also believes Prince George may be shielded from the public eye for a while after receiving online hate.

Royal commentator Robert Jobson told the Australian Sunrise show: “With George, he got quite a lot of social media attention.

“Some were critical about him wearing a shirt and tie like his dad, which I thought was very harsh.

“He has been very popular, but I think they are going to try and keep him out of the limelight a little bit.

“They are very conscious of that. The pictures were great with his dad when he was celebrating for that all too brief moment.”

Prince George attended two EURO 2020 matches – England’s round of 16 and the final – wearing an outfit matching his father’s suit and tie.

This, and the child’s heartbreak that followed England’s defeat on June 11, became the target of mockery and criticism of some Twitter users.

However, commentator Roya Nikkhah has raised the hopes of royal fans to see a new picture of Prince George earlier today.

The Sunday Times royal correspondent tweeted: “Prince George turns eight on Thursday, and in keeping with tradition the Cambridges are expected to release new pictures to mark his birthday.

“After George twice cheered on England at Wembley, might an England shirt appear, as it did for his sixth birthday pics taken by Catherine?”
