The Duchess attached a blue ribbon to her wedding dress for good luck in a touching gesture to Diana, Princess of Wales, who died in a car crash in 1997. The late royal had also sewn a blue ribbon to the gown she wore to her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles.
Prince William also honoured his mother’s memory on the big day by inviting representatives from the charities she supported during her life to the event.
For the historic occasion, the Duchess wore a Victorian-inspired corseted Alexander McQueen design.
The impressive dress also boasted floral patterns cut out from lace and stitched onto silk tulle of the bodice.
The pattern included roses, thistles, and shamrocks, which traditionally represent England, Scotland, and Ireland, respectively.
The Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge are set to mark their 10th wedding anniversary on Thursday.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the royal couple are unlikely to step out for a public celebration.
However, they may share their thoughts on the important day with royal fans across social media channels.
William and Kate, keen Instagram and Twitter users, often share messages from their Kensington Royal accounts.
The couple recently shared posts to mark Easter and Mother’s Day – so it seems possible they will do the same to celebrate their anniversary on April 29.
Royally Obsessed podcast hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie discussed how the couple could mark the milestone in a recent episode of the show.
Ms Fiorito told listeners: “It definitely made me so curious how they are going to honour 10 years of marriage.”
She added: “That’s coming up and it’s quite an occasion to celebrate.
“We could see an outpouring on social media. They don’t typically do that for anniversaries.”
