Kate Middleton was movingly compared to Princess Diana, as the Duchess of Cambridge gains confidence in her royal role. Royal expert Ingrid Seward paid the touching tribute to Kate during True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat. This comes ahead of Kate’s 40th birthday on Sunday, which is understood to be a “very low-key” affair.

Ms Seward said: “She chats away. She talks a lot, and she has suddenly become more like Diana actually.

“Really chatting with people and engaging with them in a personal way, telling them little bits about herself.”

Earlier in the week, Ms Seward elaborated on the touching comparison, telling The Mirror: “She is patient, and has the ability to listen.

“And she has discovered she has this ability with people, she is very good with the very young and the very old. That is like Diana was.”

Ms Seward continued: “Today there is definitely confidence and poise there.

“She has learnt to overcome her shyness.

“On the advice of Prince Charles, you don’t have to rush into taking on hundreds of charities.

“You can take your time and enjoy your family, and I believe having her family has helped her gain confidence.”

One royal insider told People magazine this week that Kate was “flourishing” and “coming into her own” ahead of her birthday.

It is understood that Kate will be joined by her closest friends and family members at Anmer Hall for a quiet and private birthday event this year.

Royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti said that the “Royal Family will be keen to set an example to others on January 9”.

The Cambridges also spent the festive period at Anmer Hall.

Last year, the Cambridges celebrated Kate’s 39th birthday during lockdown where she was reportedly treated to a tea party put on by William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

This year will also mark Kate’s first decade in the Royal Family, after she married William in April 2011.

It is thought that the Queen will rely on the Duchess of Cambridge “more than ever” this year.

Royal author Katie Nicholl said that the Duchess of Cambridge has “stepped up” and will play an even more important role in 2022.
