An enraged woman shared her outrage after her neighbour soiled her side of the fence “without [her] permission” – sparking a huge debate online. The anonymous and furious Mumsnet member says her fence is “ruined” now that about 30/40 feet of around 120 feet of the boundaries are painted with a colour she and her husband “hate”.

The woman explained: “My new neighbour has ruined our fence  (in our deeds) by staining their side without our permission.”

She added: “They lied and told me it was a treatment – when I asked them when it would dry clear (which they also assured me it would do!)”

The Mumsnet user went on to say it cannot be “washed” or “sanded off” given it is “stain” that has affected “about 30/40ft of around 120ft of our boundary”.

She and her husband won’t be painting theirs in the same colour as they “hate” it and because doing so would just harm our other fences if the stain seeps through, she wrote.

While the neighbours offered to “go halves” on the stain, she said the only way to correct this is by “replacing the whole thing”.

“I’ve read that this is criminal damage,” she said.

The woman has tried to reach out to them but they deleted Facebook, so she posted a paper note instead. If they don’t get back to her, she says she will knock on their door “this week”.

She added: “They also have stopped painting the rest of their fences which to me proves guilt!”

The rant on the online forum sparked mixed reactions with some users the fence is “not ruined” while others said she could get legal advice.

Dumpruntime said: “It’s not ruined goodness. Just stain it. Yea it’s annoying but hardly fence-replacing level of situation.”

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy agreed, saying: “It’s not ruined. Just a different colour What a drama…”

But Littlegoth defended her saying she “wasn’t asked for permission and didn’t want it doing,” before adding: “If that means replacing it then that’s what needs to happen.”

Another user said she could seek “legal protection” through her “home insurance”.

EarringsandLipstick noticed the fence in the photos “looks pretty neglected” and was “already in need of painting / staining.”

Tuesdayvibes said the fence “looks like it needs some treatment” as it looks “very dry and dull”.

They added: “I would probably use this as an opportunity to treat my side and take up their offer to pay for half.”
