Doorbell camera catches moment lightning strikes through a couple’s home

A doorbell camera caught the moment 300 million volts zapped the property.

The chimney was blasted off the new build’s roof, with its bricks smashing the unnamed couple’s car.

The pair, who moved into the property in 2020, said: “We had a lucky escape as I can’t imagine what would have happened to us if we’d have still been inside.

“There’s three large holes in the roof and structural damage to the door frames.

“We’re not sure when the gas and electricity can be reconnected, it may be weeks. Even the home insurers were asking if we’re sure, because it’s so rare.”

Villagers in Chalgrove, Oxon, called the fire brigade and helped the pair clear up.

Neighbour Jessica, who lives across the road, said: “It was scary, you just don’t think it will happen.”
