Charles and Camilla encourage millions to enjoy street parties in the sun

The newly crowned King and Queen have shared a message with the nation ahead of today’s Coronation Big Lunch.

Thousands of people across the country are expected to join street parties on the second day of the Bank Holiday weekend after yesterday’s historic procession in London.

There are more than 67,000 such celebrations planned, and Charles and Camilla have sent their ‘warmest wishes’ to those attending them.

A message on the Royal Family Twitter account read: ‘Whether this is your first ever Big Lunch or whether it is an annual part of your local calendar, we send our warmest good wishes to each one of you, and all those who will be with you, at what we hope will be a truly enjoyable event for everyone.’

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are scheduled to attend a Big Lunch in Windsor, while the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will attend one in Surrey and Princess Anne will appear at a street party in Wiltshire.

A palace spokeswoman said big lunches will take place from Saturday to Monday ‘in a nationwide act of celebration and friendship’.

Volunteers can be seen putting the finishing touches, decorating long table with Union Jacks, paper crowns and bunting.
