In footage shared on social media by former Bolton resident Paddy McGuiness, hundreds of people can be seen queueing up for surge-testing in the town. The UK Government is also stepping up its vaccine efforts in Bolton in a bid to stop the spread of the Indian variant – thought to be more transmissible.

Mr McGuiness tweeted: “My mate just sent me this vid of the queues in Bolton for a vaccination.

“I flew the nest almost six years ago but all my friends and family are still there, along with my heart and soul.

“It’s a strong town and I’ve no doubt they’ll get on top of this. C’mon Bolton!”

The Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, stated regarding Bolton: “We are putting in extras vaccinators, we are putting in a new vaccination site in Bolton tomorrow, we want everybody in Bolton who is eligible to come forward.”
