The Prime Minister addressed the nation on Monday, January 4. In the briefing, Boris Johnson announced a third national lockdown will be introduced across England. People have been told once again to stay at home, and only to leave home for reasons deemed essential.
Are schools closed in UK full lockdown?
Schools will be closed in England during the duration of the third lockdown.
All schools, including primary, secondary and colleges, will have to move to online learning again in England.
The PM explained the delay in closing schools was due to the Government’s understanding of how important it is to keep pupils in education.

Elsewhere in the UK, in Wales schools and colleges will shift to online learning until January 18, 2021.
Wales’ education minister Kirsty Williams said: “This is the best way to ensure that parents, staff and learners can be confident in the return to face to face learning, based on the latest evidence and information.
“Schools and colleges will remain open for children of critical workers and vulnerable learners, as well as for learners who need to complete essential exams or assessments.”
Scotland has also announced a full lockdown due to remain in place throughout January.
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced schools would be closed while Covid cases remain concerningly high.
