A game of two halves for sports store firms
Combined revenues at the firms operating the JD Sports and Champions Sports brands last year almost topped €110m but profits dipped.
UK firm JD Sports purchased Champion Sports seven years ago and John David Sports Fashions (Ireland) and Champion Sports Ireland Unlimited operate a network of 23 sports shops.
New accounts show that the JD Sports company outperformed its sister firm last year as revenues at John David Sports Fashions (Ireland) totalled €95.26m for the 53 weeks to the end of February 3 last – an increase of 10pc on 2016/17 revenues of €86m.
The company operates 19 stores and the firm recorded pre-tax profits of €12.66m for the 53 weeks.
Separate accounts for the Champion Sports firm show that pre-tax profits decreased by 10pc to €2m as revenues fell by 3pc from €14.3m to €13.9m.
The company operates four stores here and it is to continue with a programme to convert the remaining Champion Sports stores to the JD fascia.
