Woman arrested after 'attacking black teen' when her phone went missing

A woman has been arrested after allegedly attacking a black teen unprovoked when her phone went missing.

Miya Ponsetto, 22, who is also known as ‘SoHo Karen’, was filmed tackling a 14-year-old to the floor at a hotel in New York, on December 26. She falsely accused the boy, named as Keyon Harrold Jr, of stealing her phone prior to the attack, according to police.

Ponsetto fled New York after police issued a warrant for her arrest in the wake of the incident. Almost two weeks later she was finally apprehended by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department following a brief car chase in California on Thursday, reports NY Daily News.

The boy’s father, Keyon Harrold Sr – a Grammy-winning jazz musician – filmed the alleged attack in the lobby of the Arlo Hotel and posted the video on Instagram.

Minutes after the altercation, an Uber driver arrived with her phone, the teenager’s dad said in the post.

Hotel surveillance footage released by the NYDP shows Ponsetto, Keyon, Keyon Jr. and another person standing at the bottom of the stairs in the lobby.

The clip shows Keyon Jr walking towards the floor before his alleged attacker lunges at him and grab his waist.

Ponestto is said to have ‘physically attacked’ police when they arrested her yesterday, according to Eric Buschow, a spokesman for the sheriff’s department.

He said: ‘They had to pull her out of the car. They did use physical force.

‘She tried to slam the door on the leg of one of our deputies and so she was forcibly removed from the vehicle.

‘She then proceeded to physically attack him and fled the location before police officers arrived on scene.’

Ponsetto is expected to be charged with attempted robbery and is scheduled to face a judge today before being extradited to New York, sources told NY Daily News.
