Woman, 30, 'left kids in hot car' just a week after her own mum 'murdered her disabled sister in the same way'

A WOMAN left her children in a hot car just a week after her own mum murdered her disabled sister in the same way, police said yesterday.

Ashley Pangalangan, 30, is accused of locking her seven-year-old and six-month-old in the sweltering motor as she went shopping in Walterboro, South Carolina.

The car's air conditioning was broken – meaning the kids had to endure stifling conditions amid 32C heat as their mum shopped in Walmart on Monday, cops said.

It was exactly a week after Ashley's mum Rita Pangalangan, 49, was charged with murdering her daughter Cristina – Ashley's sister – by leaving her in a locked car.

Cristina, 13, was left outside her mum's house in Ruffin, South Carolina, for five hours on the afternoon of August 4, police said.

Emergency services were eventually called but the tragic girl – who had special needs – was pronounced dead at the scene.

'TEACHER OF THE YEAR'

Rita, who was once crowned Teacher of the Year, was charged last week along with her boyfriend Larry King Jr.

Ashley's two children were found locked in her car by police as temperatures outside exceeded 32C (90F), Greenville News reported.

They were uninjured and their mother was arrested as she left the supermarket.

She has been charged with unlawful conduct of a minor and her children are in protective custody.

Ashley is now being held in Colleton County Detention Center alongside her mum Rita.
